Taylor Moore won his first PGA Tour title with a win at the Valspar Championship

Taylor Moore hit a four-under 67 on the final day of the Valspar Championships to win his first PGA Tour title. The American beat an impressive field that included the likes of England’s Tommy Fleetwood, three-time major winner Jordan Spieth and overnight leader Adam Schenck.

American Taylor Moore claimed his first PGA Tour title in his 46th start after a thrilling finish to the Valspar Championship.

Moore took a shutting 67 on Innisbrook Resort’s Copperhead Course to match the club’s target of 10 short of par before he faced a tense wait to see if any of his rivals could match her.

Night leader Adam Schenck needed to equalize in the 18th minute to force a playoff but he pulled his car left from the fairway and saw his ball rest inches from the base of a tree.

From there he made great contact with a left-handed shot that went across the fairway, but after he got his approach to 41 feet, his long attempt went too fast and ran five feet.

Schenck’s playing partner Jordan Spieth needed the latter’s catch to catch Moore, but he needed three hits from long range to get back into a tie for third in the eighth under England’s Tommy Fleetwood.

Spieth tied up for the lead but then hit a terrible drive into the water on the 16th, although somehow he still made a great bogey save. He then hit the best tee shot of the day in the seventeenth, to miss by six feet for Birds.

Moore said NBCIt didn’t really hit me yet. I was just in competition mode watching guys finish – maybe in a playoff, maybe not, and that’s pretty cool.

“It’s absolutely amazing, it’s what I work for and I’m really excited about not only me but everyone around me. It’s such an amazing moment.”

Fleetwood was also tied for the lead after his third birdie of the day on eleven from fifteen, but needed two attempts to escape an embarrassing lie in the Greenside cellar on the fourteenth, and the resulting bogey ended his chances of a first. PGA Tour title.

Two-time defending champion Sam Burns, who was bidding to become the first player in over a decade to win the same PGA Tour event three years in a row, finished sixth after closing 67.

Former Ryder Cup captain Steve Stricker was the last player to achieve the feat, doing so at the John Deere Classic from 2009-11.

There have been 13 players who have had a chance to match Striker since then, and none have succeeded. Brooks Koepka came closest when he finished runner-up at Pebble Beach in 2019 in his quest for a third straight US Open title.
