Pakistan Police registers terrorism case against ex-PM Imran Khan and TMT leaders for vandalism in Islamabad – Times of India
ISLAMABAD: Pakistani police on Sunday registered a terrorist case against Omran Khan and more than a dozen PTI leaders for indulging in vandalism, attacking security personnel and stirring up disturbances outside the judicial complex here ahead of a court hearing in a corruption case involving the ousted prime minister.
Clashes broke out Islamabad Judicial Complex On Saturday when Khan arrived in Islamabad from Lahore to attend a long overdue hearing in Toshakhana cases.
During the confrontation between the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers and the police, more than 25 security personnel were injured, which prompted District Judge and Extra Sessions Judge Zafar Iqbal to postpone the court session until 30 March.
The case has been registered against arrested PTI workers and wanted party leaders. About 17 leaders of the movement were named in the FIR submitted by the Islamabad Police, Geo News reports.
The FIR stated that the workers damaged a police checkpoint and the main gate of the judicial complex.
The FIR said as many as 18 people were arrested for arson, stone-throwing and breaking the Judicial Complex building.
“About two police vehicles and seven motorcycles were burned, and the official vehicle of the station officer (SHO) was damaged,” it added.
Khan, 70, arrived in Islamabad from Lahore to appear in court. His supporters accompanied him in a caravan.
Soon after he left for Islamabad to attend the hearing, more than 10,000 armed Punjab police stormed the house of Khan Zaman Park in Lahore and arrested dozens of his party workers.
Police personnel, using an electric shovel, removed barricades and tents at the entrance to the residence of the PTI chief and expelled hundreds of his supporters who were camped there to prevent Khan’s arrest in the Tushakhana case.
They searched the house after demolishing its main gate and walls. The Punjab Police, whose employment was later terminated, was reportedly met with resistance from the PTI workers from within, leading to violence. About 10 workers were reportedly injured in a police operation in Lahore.
