Max Scherzer fired seven scoreless innings allowing four hits and one eight-hit walk in the Mets’ 2-0 victory over the Astros in West Palm Beach, Florida.
Scherzer’s ERA dropped to 0.77 this spring.
Tommy Pham scraped his chin diving at third base, but remained in the game after being examined by the coach. Lack of rain on the Treasure Coast left the surfaces hard—and may have contributed to Brandon Nimmo’s knee and ankle sliding into second base the night before, Buck Showalter said.
Caught my eye
Mark Ventus started at third base and hung out with a great backhand and throw out before reaching the plate in the next inning and hitting a double against Framber Valdez.
David Peterson and Taylor Miguel will combine to start at quarterback against the Cardinals in Port St. Lucy.
