A good opportunity for Fulham comes thanks to a great challenge from the amazing Palhinha. This leads the ball to Willian in the penalty area who, instead of pulling the trigger, sets up Robinson whose shot was saved by De Gea.
From the resulting corner the ball comes again to Willian who, as he leans in, cuts in to his right and shoots in from outside the penalty area forcing De Gea to make a better save.
It is another angle for visitors…

A strong first half from Fulham. They started brighter and had some early scenes in goal with De Gea turning a header from Diop and Willian firing wide from an attractive position after a fine move.
United came back as the half progressed but didn’t hit top gear, though one or two moves were fine, particularly in the final seconds that culminated in a McTominay effort that swerved wide.
United’s standout player was Lisandro Martinez. His passing was excellent and he’s great at challenging, as Mitrovic discovered when he fell on his back after the Argentine’s well-timed tackle. His half-half partner Harry Maguire? Much less convincing and admonished for handling Mitrović on the floor.

Manchester United entered the half more and more the longer it went on. But that doesn’t hide the fact that Fulham were the better side. They were the first to play the most balls and probably deserve to be ahead. During his short time at Old Trafford, Ten Hag has built a well-deserved reputation as someone who can turn things around well when he has to. Well, now he should.

Brilliant move by United – it only took 46 minutes to come – when the ball goes into the penalty area, Weghorst beats Sancho who then advances to McTominey whose shot is saved by the brilliant Ream. You wonder why Sancho had to pull the trigger himself.

Sancho was released on the left by Fernandez but for some reason he slowed down and the opportunity seemed to be lost. But he is biding his time before playing at Sabitzer, who Fulham handled well with a cross.

Fulham continue to dominate in possession and territory – United drop a lot and the fans tell them so. Meanwhile, Mitrović gets the better of Maguire and forces the foul and the United player gets a yellow card. That means he won’t be able to play in the semi-finals if his team makes it through, which lasts at least 18 minutes, they won’t be able to…but there’s still a long way to go.

Two good chances for Fulham within minutes – the first coming in the face of Reid’s ingenuity and persistence. He bullies Martinez but can’t find Pereira in the middle. Then Ream, the centre-back, delivers the perfect ball from the left that defeats everyone.
Fulham is ahead of United in everything at the moment, maybe they deserve a goal and the hosts have to wake up.

Then a minute or so later, Diop, still rising from the resulting corner, volleyed in a header that was well saved by De Gea.
Obviously, Fulham’s goal is to get the ball into the penalty area as much as possible and put the hosts under pressure.

Erik ten Hag is hungry for more silverware
Erik ten Hag wants winning trophies to be like waiting for the London bus as he has asked his Manchester United players to use their Carabao Cup victory as motivation to go to the FA Cup Finals.
Old Trafford host Fulham in the quarter-finals today, barely a month after they ended their six-year drought with victory over Newcastle at Wembley. The Dutchman has set his sights on achieving another title success at the famous stadium this season.
“Of course, that’s a great motivator,” he said. “We all really enjoyed Wembley, we really enjoyed winning the title and it should be the fuel for the next championship, to push them with that idea, that should bring extra energy to beat Fulham.
“We have to put the results in after Sunday, but we are now competing in three leagues and we want to stay in them, so Sunday is a huge game for us.
He added, “We have to set up a culture of winning. We are Manchester United, and we have to win all the matches, and we have to compete in all the tournaments. This is the mentality.”
Marcus Rashford hit the headlines again on Thursday as the winner in the second leg of the Europa League against Real Betis took his tally for the season to 30 goals for club and country.
19 of those have attended since the World Cup and he’s progressed over the season,” Ten Hag said.
“Also, he was not at his best when the season started, but the way he plays gives him a base and then he brings his skills, his behavior and his mentality, and this brings him a lot of progress and this makes the team a lot of joy and gives Marcus a lot of goals and we have a lot of victories.”
