Keyontae Johnson of Kansas State in the Sweet 16 after collapsing once on the court

Kansas State’s victory on Sunday was a little better for winger Keyontae Johnson.

Johnson was playing with the Florida Gators in December 2020 when he was the winger collapsed on the court while he was backing out from a time out.

Johnson was taken to hospital and remained in a coma for three days.

Now he is going to Sweet 16 follow no. 3 Kansas 75-69 over No. 6 Kentucky in the NCAA Tournament on Sunday.

Johnson scored 13 points, four rebounds and three assists in the win over Kentucky.

He subsequently remained with the Gators while recovering before transferring to Kansas State for his final season of eligibility.

And having a chance to get healthy again, the 22-year-old is back to exactly where he wants to be — delving into March Madness and making buzz for the upcoming NBA draft.

“It just shows the belief in myself and just the hard work to prove myself that got me to this point,” Johnson said. Yahoo Sports ahead of the NCAA Tournament.

“Everything happens for a reason and everything is in God’s timing. I love this game and I will never take it for granted. It’s the best feeling in the world, playing with my teammates, and I’m ready to go out and compete every night and try to win the championship.”

The winger has made a massive impact on Kansas State, amassing 17.5 points and grabbing 7.0 rebounds a game this season, all while shooting 40.5 percent from behind the arc.

He holds it even on the biggest stage in college sports, averaging 15.5 points per game in the NCAA Tournament.
