Five children, ages 8 to 17, die in a New York crash as an SUV crashes into a tree and catches fire.


Five children ages 17 and under were killed in a one-car fiery crash on the Hutchinson River Parkway in Scarsdale early Sunday — with the only survivor a 9-year-old boy who was riding in the trunk of a car, cops said.

The 16-year-old boy, who was driving a Nissan Rogue, lost control just after the Mamaroneck Road exit in Westchester County at about 12:30 a.m. and crashed into a tree, where he The SUV caught firesaid the police.

The driver, three males and a female – between the ages of 8 and 17 – were killed, authorities said.

All of the passengers were from the small town of Derby, Connecticut, just outside New Haven.

“They’re all either teens or younger, unfortunately,” O’Leary said.

The 9-year-old was taken to Westchester Medical Center for treatment for his injuries and is in stable condition.
